Selayar Island resort options: what each property says about itself

A Selayar Island resort stay usually means one of a small number of beach properties, and they publish very different things. Selayar Dive Resort sets a season and a one-week minimum. Selayar Eco Resort describes bungalows and tents on Pinang beach. Pearl Beach Cottage lists four villas. This page compares what each one states, without ranking any of them.

Which Selayar Island resort names appear on official lists?

Seven coast lodgings on Selayar Island appear by name on a regency list from 2024: Sunari Beach Resort and Asia Beach at Baloiya, Turtle Bay Selayar, an eco resort at Pinang, The Pearl Cottage, Villa Norsyah and Quina Paradise Cottage. The regency's master plan places most of its small hotels in Benteng, so beach properties are a small part of a small market.

Those counts date from 2022, and they do not always match what a property says about itself: Selayar Eco Resort's own page describes three bungalows and three tents, which is not the five rooms in the plan. Rayhan Square, with 68 rooms, is the largest entry in that table. What do the east-coast resorts offer?

Two east-coast operators publish enough detail to compare, and all of it below is their own description.

Selayar Dive Resort describes its rooms on its resort page, and its rate sheet prices diving by the day, so non-divers should ask what a week there looks like for them. Selayar Eco Resort's page is undated and its flight details look out of date, which is a reason to confirm everything else on it directly as well.

Allow for being out of touch on this coast. The author of the TurtlePhD blog reports it, and our east coast vs west coast page has that account, so ask each property what connectivity it provides.

Which west-coast beach stays are listed?

The west coast has less published detail per property. Baloiya, where the regency list puts Sunari Beach Resort and Asia Beach, is a curved bay of white sand on the west coast, 11 km or so from Benteng according to the plan. A tour operator's remark about Pantai Sunari, covered on our Selayar Island beaches page, concerns the beach and does not tell you what the resort provides.

Which listed resorts have no published coast?

Journey Beyond the Horizon, a travel blog dated October 2025, places Selayar Turtle Bay Resort on the east coast, open seasonally, and Asia Beach Resort and Quina Paradise Cottage on the west coast south of Benteng. We found no published coast for Pearl Beach Cottage, so ask for a map pin. Its own site advertises four Lumbung villas, a restaurant, and activities from kayaking and boat trips to diving and snorkelling. A notice on its news page dates its reopening to November 2024. An agency, Ocean Earth Travels of Bali, gives each villa 50 sq m and divides them into garden and beachfront. For a property that has been through a closure, ask what is operating now before you pay for anything.

Turtle Bay Selayar, Quina Paradise Cottage and Villa Norsyah appear on the regency list without further published detail. Being listed confirms a name in a government document from 2024. It does not tell you the current state of the rooms, so ask for recent photographs and a dated confirmation of what is open.

How do you reach a boat-access resort?

Selayar Dive Resort is the clearest case. Its rate sheet has its speedboat collecting guests from Bira on Fridays, and its arrival page says the trip takes about 2.5 hours. Underwater Australasia, a reader's report, says 2 hours, and adds that no roads reach the resort. A fixed weekly transfer plus a one-week minimum means your flights and your road trip to Bira all have to line up with one day of the week, with a margin for delays.

Pinang is less clear-cut. Road access to Pinang appears on the regency list, and the Ministry of Tourism puts Pinang Beach about 80 minutes from Benteng, while the plan gives 35 km. That sits awkwardly with the TurtlePhD report that most east-coast places are reached by boat, and both may be true for different properties. Ask whichever place you choose how guests arrive, who pays for it, and what happens when the sea is too rough to cross.

Do any have a minimum stay or closed season?

• Selayar Dive Resort: seven nights at least, and shut from May to September for the monsoon.
• Selayar Eco Resort: the western site opens only from May to November. Ask about any minimum stay.
• Pearl Beach Cottage: the only date to work from is the 2024 reopening.
• Sunari Beach Resort, Asia Beach and the others on the regency list: none published, so put the question in writing.

The two published calendars fit the wind pattern. Wikipedia has the big waves shifting from the west side in the months around New Year to the east side in the middle of the year, and an east-coast dive resort that closes mid-year matches that, as does a west-coast site opening from May. Ask any coast property which months its own beach is exposed, then fit the answer into a Selayar Island itinerary that keeps a spare day for the ferry or flight. What do published rates include?

Only two of these properties publish rates we can show, and the price table on this page sets them out. They are not directly comparable, for several reasons:

• Different units. Selayar Dive Resort quotes per person per night. Selayar Eco Resort quotes per unit per night, for one to four people in a bungalow and two in a tent.
• Different inclusions. Selayar Dive Resort's rates cover meals, and leave out both the transfer and the marine park fee. Selayar Eco Resort's rates come with breakfast.
• Different ages. Selayar Dive Resort's sheet is dated 2024 and valid only to 3 January 2025, so it has lapsed. Selayar Eco Resort's page is undated.
• Different currencies. The two sheets are not in the same currency, so a side-by-side reading needs a conversion on the day.

What do people ask before booking a Selayar resort?

When is Selayar Dive Resort open?

October through April, by its own account, with a closure for the monsoon the rest of the year. An agency, Bluewater, gives October to May. Ask the resort directly about the current season before planning around either date.

Where is Selayar Eco Resort located?

On Pinang beach on the east coast, by its own description, with a seasonal second site on the west coast. The Ministry of Tourism puts Pinang Beach about 80 minutes from Benteng. Ask which site you would be staying at.

Are there resorts on Selayar Island?

Yes. The regency list names Sunari Beach Resort, Asia Beach Baloiya, Turtle Bay Selayar, an eco resort at Pinang, The Pearl Cottage and others, and Selayar Dive Resort publishes its own rates. Expect small properties, since the regency plan says most hotels are small.

What can I do at Sunari Beach?

Going by Sulawesi.travel, a tour operator, expect a calm beach near Benteng with little on hand, so bring food. Sunari Beach Resort is listed at Baloiya by the regency. Ask the resort what it offers guests, snorkelling included.

Which Selayar resort has beachfront villas?

Selayar Dive Resort describes two beach villas of 75 sq m. Ocean Earth Travels, an agency, says Pearl Beach Cottage has both beachfront and garden villas, so ask which type you are being offered. This is what they publish, not a recommendation.

What is the minimum stay at Selayar Dive Resort?

One week, according to its rate sheet, with transfers from Bira by its speedboat on Fridays. The rates cover meals but not the transfer or the marine park fee. The sheet is dated 2024, so ask whether those terms still apply.
