Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and check month. Fares and rates change, and nothing here is medical or legal advice.

Selayar dive sites are documented mainly by one operator. Selayar Dive Resort publishes named east-coast walls, slopes and a muck site, with depths from a net at 14 m to a sandy slope around 55 m. Treat the table below as that operator's description rather than a survey, and confirm conditions with whoever takes you diving.

Which Selayar dive sites are named?

Selayar Dive Resort publishes the only site-by-site list with depths we found. Every entry in the first table below is the operator's own wording, condensed, and the wildlife column records what it says rather than what any visitor should expect. Sightings are never guaranteed.

The operator also names Opera Wall, Little Wall, Steps, Unspunnenstein, Doda, Appatanah Cave, Kolo Kolo, Net 1, Outside and Canyon. Those names are the resort's own, so a boat from another base may use different ones for the same stretch of reef, or none at all. If you are comparing operators, ask them to describe a site by its features.

Which sites are walls and which are slopes?

Most are walls. The resort describes the fringing reef of the east coast as mainly drop-offs and walls with caves, overhangs and shelves. A diver's report on Underwater Australasia, undated and from one reader, says reef tops sit between 3 and 9 m. That report does not say how shallow any one dive can stay, so ask the operator for its profile.

Slopes appear at the foot of the walls: at Shark Point and Karl's Corner the wall gives way to sand, and Opera Sand is the sloping site in its own right. Another operator adds a far larger claim. Selayar Eco Resort says a 600 m wall lies 150 m off its beach at Pinang. That is a single business's statement, with no site name or dive profile attached.

Which sites are deep?

On the operator's figures, Karl's Corner has the greatest published depth at around 55 m, followed by Caves and Overhangs at 45 m and Shark Point at around 40 m. Published depth means how far the terrain goes, and it is not a target. The Underwater Australasia writer says depths to 55 m were dived daily on that trip, which is one person's account and should not be read as a norm.

Plan to your training and to the operator's rules, and agree limits on the boat before you enter the water. The same resort places the closest recompression chamber in Makassar, which from this island is a journey by air or by road and sea. Our note on whether Selayar Island is safe sets out the wider medical and sea picture, and it is worth reading before you plan anything deep.

Where can you find muck and macro diving?

Opera Sand is the one site the operator calls a muck dive, with leaf fish, ghost pipefish and garden eels. For small subjects on a wall, it points to Caves and Overhangs and its pygmy seahorses. Those are the only two macro claims attached to a named site in this list.

The house reef is a different case. On its home page the resort says turtles appear on almost every house reef dive and that snorkellers have seen passing dugongs on good days. Read that as an operator's statement about its own reef. Water is warm by its account, a constant 26 to 30 degrees C, with a 3 to 5 mm suit suggested.

What are the sites near Benteng?

Site-level detail thins out quickly away from the resort. Wikipedia lists Pulau Kambing in the straits and a site called Selayar Atoll from Benteng, and reports white-tip and black-tip sharks, bumphead parrotfish and cuttlefish at Pulau Kambing, though parts of that article are unsourced. Sulawesi.com mentions south-coast walls and reefs visited by Benteng's local operators, without naming any of them.

Official lists stay general. The Ministry of Tourism divides the diving into three broad zones, one on each side of the island plus the atoll. The regency's attraction list notes diving at Bahuluang and Tambolongan, both reached by local boat. Tempo reported in 2021 that a fisheries official named sunken-vessel heritage as a marine tourism asset, and it mentioned equipment support for a local marine community at Pasi Gusung Island. A 2022 Atlantis Press paper records six underwater archaeological locations in Selayar waters. Ask the boat crew directly for depths and routes.

How are dive times decided?

By the tide. Selayar Dive Resort says dive times follow the tides and are announced each evening, and that its furthest sites are 15 minutes away by speedboat. The Underwater Australasia writer adds that currents strengthen at full moon. Since Karl's Corner is usually a drift, you should expect the site list to change with the water rather than follow a fixed daily plan.

Access is the other deciding factor. The resort's rate sheet also sets a minimum stay and fixed transfer days, and gives the season as October to the end of April. That sheet is dated 2024 and valid to 3 January 2025, so ask for the current version. The price table on this page shows the sheet's day rate for diving and the marine park fee it lists as payable in cash on site. Those stay terms are on our page about Selayar Island resort options, and operators, seasons and levels are covered in the wider guide to Selayar Island diving.

What do divers ask about Selayar dive sites?

How deep is Shark Point in Selayar?

Selayar Dive Resort says the wall bottoms out on a sandy slope at around 30 m, and that the slope can be followed to around 40 m. It lies about 10 minutes from the resort by boat.

Which sites are closest to Selayar Dive Resort?

The operator puts Caves and Overhangs 5 minutes away by boat and Shark Point 10 minutes, with nothing on its list beyond a 15-minute speedboat ride.

What is the Selayar House Reef like?

Selayar Dive Resort says turtles appear on almost every house reef dive and that snorkellers have seen passing dugongs on good days. Both are operator statements, so treat them as reports and not as a promise.

How deep is Karl's Corner in Selayar?

The operator describes a wall with a sandy slope to around 55 m, usually dived as a drift, and recommends it deep for experienced divers only. No site in its list has a greater published depth.

What are the best dive sites in Selayar?

No neutral ranking exists to quote. Site descriptions come almost entirely from one resort with an interest in its own reef. Choose by type instead: walls at Shark Point or Caves and Overhangs, sand at Opera Sand.

Where is the Kolo-Kolo dive site?

Selayar Dive Resort lists Kolo Kolo among its named sites, which it says lie within a 15-minute speedboat ride, so it sits near the resort. It publishes no exact position.

Which published prices did we check?

Public fares, rate sheets and fees, each with its source and the month we checked it. Several are old or undated and marked as such. These are third-party figures: confirm with the source before you rely on one.

How do I reach the desk?

Tell the desk your certification, logged dives, preferred months and whether deep sites matter to you, at bd@juaraholding.com or WhatsApp +62 811-3941-4563. We do not operate dive boats, and nothing here reserves a place or a site. Because a request can lead to a paid booking, we have a commercial interest; any fee, the price and the contracting company are stated in a written offer before you agree.
