Makassar to Selayar flight: airline, airport and how reliable the route is

A Makassar to Selayar flight exists when the route is running. Wikipedia lists FlyJaya as the only scheduled airline as of 2026, flying to H. Aroeppala Airport near Benteng, and Sulawesi.com gives about 45 minutes in the air. The route stopped in 2023, 2025 and early 2026, so confirm with the airline and never let this flight hold a tight plan together.

Who flies the Makassar to Selayar flight?

FlyJaya, on the weight of the evidence, though not every listing agrees. The regency government reported the airline's first flight on 29 September 2025. Wikipedia says that, as of 2026, only FlyJaya operates scheduled flights at the airport and that earlier airlines have left. Sulawesi.com, a tour operator's guide, described it flying the route in October 2026. Those three agree, and one of them is the local government.

Two aggregators name someone else. Rome2Rio lists Air Connect, and Trip.com lists FlyJaya and Wings Air. An out-of-date listing is a possible explanation, because older pages keep repeating old services: the regency's own tourism plan still describes a daily Wings Air service, and the flight details on the Ministry of Tourism's page are also out of date. A name on a booking site does not show that the airline is flying this week.

How long is the flight?

Between 45 and 50 minutes, depending on the source: Sulawesi.com says about 45, while Rome2Rio and Trip.com show about 50. The gap is small and your ticket will settle it.

Distance figures are less tidy. Rome2Rio gives 111 miles from Makassar to the island, and Wikipedia places the archipelago around 150 km southeast of Makassar. They measure different things, so neither helps much with planning. The comparison that matters is with the ground route, which takes most of a day. How many flights are there each week?

Check any weekly timetable against the airline. The record shows a thin service. At launch, the regency reported two flights a week on Mondays and Saturdays. Rome2Rio shows two a week on different days under a different airline name. Trip.com shows about one a week.

The outlier is Tribun-Timur, which reported in July 2026 that flights ran three times a day between Selayar and Makassar. That conflicts with every other source here. We would not plan on it unless the airline confirms it for your date. Three of the four sources that give a frequency describe one or two flights a week, and that is the safer assumption while you plan.

The practical effect of a thin service is that a cancellation may cost several days. If the next flight is not until later in the week, the fallback is the ground route.

How reliable has the route been?

It has stopped three times in a little over two years, on the dates below. The one stated reason we found is aircraft maintenance, for the suspension Selayarnews reported in January 2026. With one airline listed, there may be no second carrier to move to when it happens again.

The 2021 figure is worth a second look. One year proves little on its own, but fewer than ten thousand passengers, with two months of no recorded traffic, shows how small the traffic has been. Sulawesi.com's advice to keep a spare day follows directly from this record.

Where is H. Aroeppala Airport?

In Bontoharu District, about 7 km from Benteng, according to Wikipedia. Its codes are IATA KSR and ICAO WAWH. Booking sites index the route as UPG to KSR, so search both forms. The regency plan records a 1,950 by 30 m runway.

We found no published taxi service or fare from the terminal, so ask your lodging to meet the flight. Fares are a different matter. Traveloka and Trip.com both publish route figures, and the price table on this page shows them as agency listings with the month checked. A listed fare does not prove that a seat exists on your date. If you are flying from Jakarta or elsewhere, the only scheduled destination Wikipedia lists from Selayar is Makassar, so plan a connection there. Leave plenty of room between the two flights, on separate tickets especially.

What should you do if your flight is cancelled?

Work through these in order. Nothing here depends on us, and we cannot rebook you.

1. Ask the airline or agent, in writing, what it offers: the next flight, a refund or a voucher. Keep the message.
2. Check when the next flight actually is. On a thin schedule that could be days away.
3. Compare it with the ground route. From Makassar that means the road to Bira and the crossing to Pamatata ferry port, and the crossing has its own weather risk.
4. Tell anyone expecting you on the island, such as lodging or a boat owner, as soon as you know.
5. Coming back, leave Benteng early enough to protect any onward flight from Makassar.

Fit the flight to the trip accordingly. Use it where a delay costs you a beach day, and avoid it where a delay costs you a non-refundable dive week or an international connection.

What airport serves Selayar Island?

H. Aroeppala Airport, code KSR, in Bontoharu District about 7 km from Benteng, according to Wikipedia.

Is Wings Air still flying to Selayar?

Sources disagree. Trip.com lists Wings Air on the route, while Wikipedia says only FlyJaya operates scheduled flights as of 2026 and that earlier airlines have left. Treat a Wings Air listing as unconfirmed until the airline itself sells you a ticket.

Which days does FlyJaya fly to Selayar?

The regency reported Mondays and Saturdays at the September 2025 launch. Rome2Rio shows Mondays and Fridays under another airline name. Check the current days with the airline.

Can I book a direct flight to Selayar?

From Makassar, yes, when the route is on sale. Traveloka and Trip.com both show it. Wikipedia lists no other scheduled destination from the island, so other cities connect through Makassar.
